About

Thoughts on film, philosophy, and other things from James Mooney – lecturer and course organiser at The University of Edinburgh‘s Office of Lifelong Learning.

My current Open Studies courses include An Introduction to Philosophy and Thinking through Film.

As well as my Open Studies courses, I also teach Film Studies and Philosophy as part of the Part-time Access Course offered jointly by The University of Edinburgh and Stevenson College Edinburgh.

Outwith this, I enjoy quality cinema (research), trash-television (under the guise of research), locally produced lagers, listening to Tindersticks, dining out, fitba, the New Town, and thinking far too much about traffic lights!

I hope that you enjoy reading this blog, which is an assortment of teaching materials and personal reflections. The views expressed here are my own, and are not necessarily shared by The University of Edinburgh (or anyone else for that matter).

  1. Hi,
Really like this site, it’s such an interesting idea. Before I stumbled upon this blog, I actually had a very similar idea to this. So many films explore philosophical ideas and I think its a fascinating relationship with the potential for a large amount of material. Incidentally, I study Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, which I’m really enjoying.
